Painting a Fishing Weight

Abstract Chalk painting

Chalk painting on Stretched Canvas 110 x 51 x 4cm

This piece was in response to a wrapped object event with Ilkley Arts and exhibited in the What If? exhibition.

To receive a fishing weight as a gift is an odd disappointment to someone who never fishes. However, upon spending time with it, I started to admire it’s form. It was satisfying to hold and exuded the relaxing tranquility of what I could only imagine as a static line, waiting to be nudged. It took me to shores linking countries to continents and streams to rivers. Revealing hidden stories of old lives at sea, moving from port to port, as junction links to service station like an old mate.
